Siobhan Davies Dance Big Dance 2010
For Kingston’s Big Dance highlight, eight extraordinary dance companies came together to present a scintillating evening of dance.
Participating companies included:
Kayo Dance are one of the biggest hip-hop crews in East London and have performed at venues such as Cafe De Paris, The Shaw Theatre, The Roundhouse, The Scoop, Stratford Circus and The Queen’s Theatre.
Sakoba Dance is the UK’s only post-traditional African dance company. This performance created collaboratively with students, illustrates Bode Lawal’s dance technique – bold, elemental and spiritual – but firmly rooted in a quality of movement that is both contemporary and life-affirming.
Kinetic Dance Company is a contemporary youth dance collective dedicated to producing dynamic and inspiring dance work. Triple Impact is a collection of three contemporary dance works that are physically challenging and promise to entertain.
Fuzzylogic aims to push the boundaries of male dance through a unique style of high tempo and energetic contact work fused with exciting narrative contemporary dance.
The very best in boys dance from Tiffin Boys’ School
Srishti Yuva Culture was formed in 2006 in order to prepare Bharatanatyam students for a professional dance career. “Cycles”, an abstract dance piece, is one of the company’s most popular works.
Kingston University Dancers will be performing a variety of styles ranging from street dance to Chinese wushu. All the pieces have been created by the students themselves over the last couple of months. The students are overseen by Jason Piper, who has worked in dance, theatre and film for over 15 years.
