Create – A Big Dance Bubble Choreographic Challenge

Create was an exciting choreographic workshop that challenged dance practitioners to make work that responded to The Big Dance Bubble.

Create was led by Susanne Thomas, Artistic Director of Seven Sisters group, who is a highly acclaimed choreographer specialising in making cross disciplinary work for site specific performance. She introduced choreographic approaches which allowed participants to explore the architectural structure, textures, geometries as well as the location and placement of the Bubble in a public park. This was an excellent opportunity for choreographers, teachers and dance practitioners working with both professionals and community groups to develop their skills in choreography for unusual spaces.

Participants also heard David Harradine of Fevered Sleep talk about the process and concept behind the new work and saw a performance. The workshop culminated in a performance of the finished work by the participants in the Big Dance Bubble.

Susanne Thomas formed Seven Sisters Group in 1994 with a team of independent artists whose disciplines include dance, theatre design, fine art, music and video. Her highly acclaimed projects are often site-specific and combine contemporary dance, installation, video and spoken word. Seven Sisters Group’s work has been described as leading in the field of dance and site-specific performance; their risk taking and highly visual projects have been presented in both outdoor and indoor sites in the UK and Europe.
