Artistic Director De Nederlandse Opera
Pierre Audi was appointed Artistic Director at De Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam in 1988. He is the founder of the Almeida Theatre in London, characterised by a policy devoted to internationalism and innovation. Over ten years the theatre and particularly its Contemporary Music Festival grew steadily in international stature. He received numerous awards including the Leslie Boosey Award for his outstanding contribution to British musical life, the BMW Muziektheatre Prize and the Dutch Theatre Critic's Production for two of his Shakespeare productions and four productions of Monteverdi operas.
In 2000 Pierre Audi was knighted by the Her Majesty the Queen of the Netherlands, in the order of the Dutch Lion for his services to Dutch cultural life. In 2001 he was named Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur by the French President and in 2001 he received the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds Theatreprijs for his work as Director and Artistic Director of the Nederlandse Opera.
