Thursday 31 May 2012
10am to 3.30pm at Siobhan Davies Studios
85 St George’s Road, London SE1 6ER
A dance workshop for anyone teaching children at primary level (ages 4 to 11), led by Dance Artist Educator, Marie Forbes.
Pass it on offers teachers an established framework for developing dance from almost any topic, which can be repackaged in many different ways for an enduring creative, inclusive and kinaesthetic approach to the curriculum. A full resource pack is included in all workshops.
Following on from the highly successful Pass it on workshops for primary school teachers held by Siobhan Davies Dance in 2010 and 2011, Extend it aims to help teachers further develop their choreographic skills, gaining fresh ideas for developing dance work created by children into a performance everyone can be proud of.
‘This is the second Pass it on dance training course I have been on and they have both been really inspiring and given me different ways of looking at dance. It makes a teacher feel confident and enthusiastic.’ (Teacher from Merton Park Primary School, participating in Pass it on at Siobhan Davies Studios, November 2011)
Extend it is ideal for teachers who want to enhance their choreography for the school production, pep up their assemblies, or simply give pupils a positive experience of developing a dance for performance. No previous dance experience is necessary.
‘The workshop was fantastic. Very clear, very informative, pacey and creative, with loads of ideas. The fact that the final performance just came together in baby steps meant there was no pressure. I’m enthused about dance and happier about my own ability to teach it, when I initially thought I hadn’t much to offer!’
(Teacher from Pelham Primary School, participating in Pass it on at Siobhan Davies Studios, November 2011)
Extend it is also open to teachers or dance artists and student teachers not currently working in a primary school, but with an interest in developing their expertise with the primary age group.
‘This approach to teaching dance has really opened up my mind to the possibilities of incorporating dance into different aspects of the curriculum. The instructor was EXCELLENT. I would definitely do another workshop here again and would highly recommend it.’
(PGCE student from Brunel University, participating in Pass it on at Siobhan Davies Studios, November 2011)
‘It was extremely well delivered and inspiring. I really enjoyed the session and learned some invaluable tips and strategies. This has opened my eyes to how dance can be relevant and fun without being scary.’
(PGCE student from London University’s Institute of Education, participating in Pass it on at IOE, November 2011).
Big Dance festival 2012 features nine days of dance in unusual spaces throughout London.
