Residency, November 2004
Dancers Sasha Roubicek and Laurent Cavanna spent two weeks with the students from the Northern School in an intense study of Siobhan Davies Dance’s signature work – White Man Sleeps.
The students took daily class with Sasha, gaining a greater awareness of the skeletal and muscular connections in the body as well as using the breath and weight in new and challenging ways. They then spent the rest of the day tackling the phrases from White Man Sleeps as well as experiencing the challenge of the duet work within the piece.
At the end of the two weeks, the students gave an informal showing of what they had achieved to an audience that included their fellow students and teaching staff.
