Carnival of the Animals

In 2008 Siobhan Davies re-created Carnival of the Animals for Rambert Dance Company.  This new production has since toured the UK alongside new work by Artistic Director Mark Baldwin.

Originally created in 1982 for a cast of eight Second Stride dancers (a company formed by Siobhan Davies, Richard Alston and Ian Spink) Siobhan re-worked the choreography to invigorate the piece for the 21st Century.

“Davies eye for the images that defines each of the 14 sections is wonderfully acute, from the fastidious, scratchy walk of the rooster and hens, to the gliding elegance of the solitary swan. Pure genius is the lovelorn cuckoo who mimes a beating heart to the dying fall of its own musical call.”The Guardian

Set to Saint-Saëns' beautiful and melodic music, Carnival of the Animals is one of Siobhan Davies' most popular and endearing works.
