The Art of Touch

“Davies is, unexpectedly, a perfect dancing partner for Scarlatti: responding to his formality and to his inventiveness, making up a series of quick steps and then sweeping them away with a high, slow, arching leg, or some hearty thumps of the foot to match the harpsichord’s base line” The Independent, on the original production in October 1995

The Art of Touch was originally created in 1995, and the following year it won an Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance and an Evening Standard Award for Outstanding Production. This year, Siobhan Davies returns to Rambert to revive the work for seven dancers.

Siobhan Davies has given an in depth interview for Rambert and speaks about how the work was originally conceived, and its development for the revival. This, together with behind the scenes film footage of Rambert’s premiere in Aberdeen earlier this year, can be found on their microsite.
