Siobhan Davies has produced something unique in the sphere of contemporary dance. Inspired by the simplicity of Italian folk songs, which form part of the music score, In Plain Clothes is constructed using fragments of dance; individual notes represent movements, giving the final work unlimited connections.
In Plain Clothes continues Siobhan Davies' collaborative philosophy, by inviting an architect, a linguist, landscape designer and heart surgeon, to be part of the rehearsal process, alongside her composer and designer. Each of her contemporaries, seeing movement from a different perspective, has influenced the genesis and growth of the piece, by bringing observation, energy and humour to the rehearsal process.
“I've drawn stimulation from a group of people who wouldn't normally be involved in creating dance. Bringing their knowledge of essential structures to the studio, they've given me, and my dancers, different objectives. Each brought a method of expression, which has not been within our realm before.” Siobhan Davies
A Hinged Pair
On selected evenings, audiences will be able to enjoy an informal talk from one of the collaborators. A hinged pair, the performance of In Plain Clothes and the talk sit side by side. Related but not explaining each other the programme is intended to engage the eye and stimulate the mind.
