Environmental Sustainability

Siobhan Davies Dance is committed to environmental sustainability in relation to both the operation and activities of the Studios, and the artistic activities we take elsewhere.

The bulk of our carbon footprint is produced by the operation of the Studios building, although office operations and our programme of activities also contribute to our environmental impact. Responsibility for monitoring and controlling our environmental impact therefore runs throughout all levels of the organisation from the Board, to office-based and venue staff to the artists who create our work.

We see environmental sustainability as both a business benefit, allowing us to control running costs for our venue and organisation, and also a moral imperative to protect and conserve our environment for future generations of artists and audiences.

We will aim to reduce any negative impact on the environment by:

  • Ensuring products and services are sourced from sustainable environments

  • Ensuring energy and water consumption are as efficient as possible

  • Reducing, reusing and recycling whenever and wherever we can

  • Monitoring and evaluating our impact, and contributing to industry benchmarking

  • Communicating our objectives, activities and achievements

Siobhan Davies Studios was built in 2006 with a view to sustainable practice at the time therefore many steps are already in place to support this policy.  We are seeking to improve on the areas that are affected by practice, and to change our behaviours to support limiting negative environmental impact.

We have recommitted to engaging with environmental sustainability and over the next three years (2015/16 – 2017/18), we will specifically aim to:

  • Reduce our energy consumption through capital improvements to the Studios such as changing lighting and temperature controls

  • Quantify and improve our recycling and waste management practices including introducing composting

  • Monitor and evaluate our impact in order to identify further improvements that we can make

  • Communicate with our artists and visitors in the Studios and through online channels
