Video Formats

Video content is offered in a range of different formats for you to choose from. Video is played within the pages using Adobe Flash Player amd the same video content is also provided to downloads as either QuickTime or MP4 movies. Read on for further details on these formats.

Adobe Flash Player

To watch streaming video content within the pages you need Adobe®Flash® Player 8.0 (or higher) installed. This is free, quick to download and easy to install.

To play the video

If you have the correct Flash Player video controls will be shown, with the video paused on the first frame, ready to start using the play button. For users without the correct version of Flash Player video content won't appear and a thumbnail of the movie will be shown.

Playback issues

The quality of the video playback when viewing this streaming video will depend in part on the speed of your internet connection. If you are on a slower connection and experiencing playback problems please download the video in one of the alternative formats below.

QuickTime

Video is available to view or download as QuickTime movies. QuickTime is Apple's technology for handling video and audio. This requires QuickTime Player®, available free from Apple. The size of each “.mov” file download is indicated alongside the link.

MP4

Video content is also provided to download in MPEG-4 format for playback on computers and other mobile devices. A wide range of MP4 players are available including iTunes, RealPlayer, QuickTime, Media Player Classic and Winamp, with support across different systems including Mac, Linux, PocketPC and Windows. The size of each “.mp4” movie download is indicated alongside the link.
