Next Choreography Festival
On Sunday July 3 we host the second Next Choreography Festival, co-curated by young artists and choreographers from Next Choreography, our yearlong course for 14—21 year olds. For more information see here.
City Hall Take Over Day: Dance Through Your Imagination
On Monday July 4 we take over City Hall in partnership with the Institute of Imagination. Celebrating the theme of movement primary school groups navigate interactive installations and workshops across the building. For more information see here

Design Competition for 5 – 14 year olds
Big Dance has teamed up with the Institute of Imagination and is inviting 5 – 14 year olds to enter a competition to design the iconic London travelcard holder. The Big Dance Pledge
The Big Dance Pledge is a free opportunity to create a dance and perform in connection with thousands of participants across the world. Created for the 2016 edition by choreographer Akram Khan with music by Nitin Sawhney, people are invited to learn the original 4-minute choreography or develop their own version to tell their own stories. Available now, online tutorial films, a written teaching guide and other resources for groups to create their dance to perform with groups worldwide on 20 May at 1pm and 7pm, local time to each location, giving a ‘wave’ of connected performance throughout the world. To open the 2016 Big Dance Festival on 2 July 2016, the Mayor of London and People Dancing invite 1,000 Londoners, aged 14 and over, to participate in a major dance commission by Akram Khan.
This is a great opportunity for dance groups and individuals to learn a new piece of choreography by Akram Khan, and then come together for a unique afternoon of dance performances in an iconic London location.
The performances will take place in the iconic setting of Trafalgar Square on Saturday 2 July. Find out more here

Volunteer for Big Dance 2016
We cannot deliver Big Dance without a team of incredible volunteers.
We need you to support the London programme of performances, workshops and events that take place in shopping centres, parks, palaces, schools, high streets and town squares from May 2016 until September 2016.
Opportunities will be posted on the Team London and Speed Volunteering websites on a regular basis. If you’re interested in volunteering please join Big Dance on Tuesday 26 April, 6 – 8pm at City Hall for a briefing event where you will meet the team and get to know more. Find out more here
