Created and curated by members of our Young Artists’ Advisory Group, the Young Artists’ Choreography Lab presents an opportunity for participants to experience contemporary choreographic practice from the next generation of dance artists.
Each week, a different young artist will lead a sessions sharing their own developing choreographic practice, techniques and ideas. The Young Artists’ Choreography Lab is an opportunity for young people interested in dance and choreography to explore, experiment, network and collaborate.
No dance experience required.

Emily Jane Robinson - Dissecting Surroundings
Responding to images and sensory information this lab will introduce different ways of creating choreography from improvisation individually, in pairs and groups.

Dani Kolanis & Stella Rousham - Creativity through constraints: Creative writing, notation and movement
This lab explores the relationships between text and movement, looking at the possibilities for dance notation and choreography.

Katharina Book - Interpreting Text
What happens in our body when we read incomprehensible text; how are our breathing patterns, pronunciation, posture, and bodily tension effected? How can we use this movement vocabulary in choreography?

Yanaelle Thiran - Group Knots
Building group knots this lab will play with physical balance and group dependence, using contact, counter-balance and physical tension to make connected meaningful choreographic sketches.
