A collection of images capturing and composing movement by participants of our Still Moving course in 2013.
Still Moving is a photography course we run annually at Siobhan Davies Studios. In 2013 Still Moving participants responded to the techniques and themes of All This Can Happen a film by Siobhan Davies and David Hinton. The film-making process might be described as a choreography of movement images. Ordinary movements are deconstructed, manipulated and reconfigured to reveal what is often lost to sight in the everyday. All This Can Happen is composed using many different juxtapositions, speeds and densities of images, and there are often several different frames of action on screen at the same time.
We challenged Still Moving photographers to employ these different techniques and approaches to capturing movement on camera. Through sequences, collages and juxtaposition the photographers used composition to create movement. Their images represent the action of movement and the photographer’s observations and response to it. A collection of images captured and composed during the course by participants are now available in a book.
