A non-judgmental space for artists to share live performance and receive feedback. Led by Billy Gigurtsis, hosted by SDS.
This is a space where works in progress and finished pieces alike can be explored and meet with constructive dialogue. While these sessions are anchored by performance, we recognise and foreground the fact that contemporary practice is often interdisciplinary, and welcome works that come in many forms – from movement and sound to visual media and beyond.
Nicholas Quinn and Jonny Hibbs will be presenting work at this Crit Space. Nicholas will present a film documenting a body-based practice on site at DD Dorvilliers studio in wine producing Beaune. Jonny will be exploring the process of composing music and dance in a gathering of historical research re-told as queer.
Crit Space is led and facilitated by Billy Gigurtsis, hosted by Siobhan Davies Studios.

What to expect
- Each session will follow a silent crit model.
- Two artists will present their work, one per hour.
- Each artist will begin by providing some brief context about their work. They will then share it through some form of live performance.
- After the performance, the artist will listen as peers engage in a facilitated discussion; a space for honest and non-judgmental responses employing Visual Thinking Strategies.
- At the end of the discussion, the artist can respond.
There will be multiple, short breaks throughout the two hours.
How Crit Space is Run
The Crit Space employs Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS). This method of inquiry is designed to enhance the observation of art through critical thinking, encouraging evidence based comments through observation.
Some questions that are usually asked are:
- “What’s going on here?”
- “What do you see that makes you say that?”
- “What more can we find?”
Through this method, Crit Space aims to be a supportive environment where artists can share works in progress or completed pieces and receive thoughtful, structured, and non-judgemental feedback.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Billy Gigurtsis
Billy Gigurtsis is a London-based interdisciplinary choreographer and performer. His practice extends choreography beyond traditional dance boundaries, exploring it as a fundamental principle of organization and relation across systems. Rooted in expressionist traditions like Butoh and Tanztheater, his durational performances and technology-integrated works investigate how complex systems emerge and interact. A graduate of NEXT Choreography, Billy has presented work across the UK, including Riposte and Siobhan Davies Studios, and performed internationally as a Candoco Dance Artist.
