EMOTION Performance Sun 13 Jul 2025, 4am - 5am + breakfast

Join us at the tender time of dawn for the extraordinary finale to our annual community performance project.

Emotions are often regarded as unmanageable and uncivilised: often repressed or silenced, sometimes unleashed and weaponised.

EMOTION brings performers and audience together to refresh the experience of performance as a communal act: an encounter beyond commodity.

Gathering at dawn will be an intimate, unmarketable experiment and a challenge. This show is our attempt to explore ways to collectively unleash and share emotions with generosity, and to find new rituals and feelings in common.

To create EMOTION participants from our communities will have joined artists Annie Pui Ling Lok, Juan Ayala, Moyra Cecilia Silva Rodriguez, Sasha Mahfouz Shadid and Andreas Levisianos over eight workshops.

We will have been exploring thresholds and cycles of birth, life and death – and worked with movement influenced by krumping, hip hop martial arts, theatre-making, voice work, contact improvisation and contemporary dance. For many taking part, it will be their first time performing.

EMOTION is the fourth in our rotating series of performance projects – LANGUAGE, POWER, FEAR, EMOTION – made in Elephant and Castle. Check out what we got up to in previous projects here.

Ways to get here for 4am

By tube: Our nearest tube station Elephant and Castle does not operate the night tube; however, Southwark, Waterloo and Kennington stations do, all of which are around a 15-minute walk away from Siobhan Davies Studios. You can find a map of the Night Tube here.

By night bus: Our local area is served by several night buses, which are particularly useful if you are traveling from elsewhere in South London. You can find a map of local night bus services here.

Audiences say…

“I love the values that permeate this project – joy, community, inclusion and how dance is such an amazing facilitator to imbue a space and neighbourhood with that!”

“I have seen many community performances before, but not one that achieves this depth and bravery of performance quality in such a short time.”

“I loved the diversity of those performing. It was as if the many breathed one breath … it was a body with many arms and it was as beautiful in movement.”
