Fruity Walks: discovering orchards around SDS Sat 1 Nov 2025, 10.30 – 11.30am

Join us on a Fruity Walk through South London, where trees tell stories of resilience, adaptation, and community.

We’ll explore the hidden orchard in Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park and the elegant West Square Gardens. Two green spaces in the city, rich in biodiversity and quiet charm. Along the way, we’ll discover how these overlooked corners of South London foster wellbeing, connection, and quiet resistance to urban stress.

Expect unexpected trees, moments of calm, and new ways of seeing familiar spaces. Through mindfulness, tree identification, and storytelling, we’ll uncover the surprising fruit trees that thrive here, from Persimmons to medlars, and consider what they reveal about the changing climate and our relationship to the land.

This walk is for all ages. Come curious, and leave nourished, in more ways than one!

Following the walk we’ll share some hot drinks and pastries at the studios when we invite you to learn more about our Courtyard Garden and our Autumn programme.

ABOUT Fruity Walks

Fruity Walks is a project exploring the hidden fruit trees of London and the stories they hold. Through guided walks, I combine tree identification with history, mythology, and cultural storytelling, inviting participants to see familiar spaces in a new way. Each walk is interactive, reflective, and rooted in community and ecology.
