LANGUAGE Celebratory Performance Sat 9 Jul 2022, 3.45pm - 5.15pm

Join us for a celebratory performance of SDS’s new community project LANGUAGE

We have invited neighbours from Elephant and Castle for a month of workshops, to dance and share ideas together around the theme of language.

It’s been an opportunity to move, make and get to know each other – and we want to share some of this with you. Expect performance, food, drink and conversation!

The performance

LANGUAGE will take place in various locations within a five-minute walk of our studios. Seating will be available at each point and all locations are step-free. Please bring layers and appropriate shoes.

The performance will begin at the Imperial Dog Park at 4pm and we will gradually move towards and into the studios. Please check-in at Siobhan Davies Studios from 3.45pm if you would like to be given directions or to walk there with a group for the start of the performance.

The project

LANGUAGE is an encounter between artists, neighbours and the team at Siobhan Davies Studios exploring movement as a form of expression and shares experiences of communicating, misunderstanding, longing and listening.

Participants have joined our Co-Artistic Director Annie Pui Ling Lok, plus artists Juan Ayala, Akeim Toussaint BuckCarlos Maria Romero aka Atabey MamasitaEmiko IshiiMaiya Leeke and Josh Hawkins.

We have been introduced to a number of different movement styles and dance languages including Vogue-chi, Hip-hop, Caribbean dance, Contemporary dance, Kathak and Martial arts.

LANGUAGE is the first of four annual projects creating and dancing with our neighbours in Elephant and Castle. Find out more here.
