Celebrate Lunar New Year with a calligraphy craft and movement workshop for adults and children!
Join us to see out the creative and wise Wood Snake and welcome in the dynamic Fire Horse!
On Saturday 14 February, we will be celebrating the Lunar New Year in our beautiful Roof Studio with a calligraphy craft session followed by a dance workshop lead by Taiwanese movement facilitator Yuyu Rau. Adults and children alike are invited to try some traditional calligraphy techniques and then use the calligraphy to inspire and create some fun dance moves together.
Calligraphy craft workshop: 2 – 3pm
We will be learning some simple strokes and techniques of Chinese calligraphy, writing the Chinese characters for ‘fire’ and ‘horse’ and learning about their origins.
Movement workshop: 3- 3.45pm
A creative movement session inspired by the calligraphy techniques used to write ‘fire’ and ‘horse’ and their meanings.
Snacks and drinks: 3.45 – 4.30pm
We will celebrate with some fortune cookies and Chinese tea to share!

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Yuyu Rau
Yuyu Rau is a Taiwanese-born dance artist and facilitator living in the UK. She specialises in bespoke creative and mindful movement sessions that foster cross-cultural awareness and community connection. Holding an MA in Theatre for Community and Education from Mountview, where she graduated with distinction, Yuyu leads participant-centred workshops integrating mindfulness, somatic approaches, and creative exploration. She has worked with diverse communities and organisations, facilitating sessions and showcases that promote creativity, connection, and dialogue.
ACCESS AND AMENITIES AT SDS
Siobhan Davies Studios is mostly accessible, with lifts to all floors. There are two accessible parking spaces available on site which can be booked in advance. Blue Badge parking is also available nearby on West Square and Garden Row (for a full map visit the Southwark Council website). Our main door is power assisted.

- Snack Bar: We have a small selection of bars, drinks and food available to buy from the front desk.
- Shops: The closest shop is Superway Supermarket on Garden Row (4 min walk), the closest supermarket is Sainsbury’s on New Kent Road (7 min walk). We also recommend the Art Cafe which serves sandwiches, jacket potatoes and meals (3 min walk).
* Our changing facilities and showers are not fully accessible. Our closest publicly available and fully accessible changing facility is at The Castle Centre, a leisure centre 0.3 miles away from the studios. You can find full details of their features here.
