NEUROLIVE Symposium II Mon 2 Jun – Wed 4 Jun 2025, 10am - 5.30pm

Tickets are free for symposium attendees with a discount code.

A celebration of NEUROLIVE’s interdisciplinary investigation of liveness.

‘What are you working on?!
Have you found anything yet?!
What have we done?!’
– Seke Chimutengwende and Steph McMann, words spoken in NEUROLIVE Performance 1: Detective Work

This 3-day symposium is a celebration of NEUROLIVE’s interdisciplinary investigation of liveness, and marks the conclusion of this unique 5-year research project.

NEUROLIVE invites researchers, practitioners and students in cognitive neuroscience, dance, performance, empirical aesthetics, computing and related fields to come together for a programme of discussions, presentations and a new lecture performance, all reflecting on the themes and methods of the project.

In this symposium, the team of scientists and artists who have been part of NEUROLIVE will share findings and reflections on the research. Invited guests from the fields of cognitive neuroscience, theatre and performance studies, dance studies and artistic practice will host discussions focusing on different aspects of the project.

NEUROLIVE is an interdisciplinary research collaboration that brings artists, scientists and audiences together to study what makes live experiences special. Each year since 2021, NEUROLIVE has commissioned a public performance work that is both an artistic event and part of a scientific research process. The closing series of public events at SDS comprises a 5-day series of artistic research workshops, a 3-day symposium and a lecture performance.

Teas, coffees and light refreshment will be provided during break times, included in the ticket price.

Tickets for The Neurocognition of Liveness – a Lecture Performance on Tuesday 3 June are free for symposium attendees. You will be provided with a code to book your free place.
