SERAFINE1369 (Jamila Johnson-Small, previously Last Yearz Interesting Negro) offers a 6-week sharing of thoughts, strategies and questions that inform their choreographic practice. Using the situation of online encounters to support deeper engagement with your own environment (internal and external and virtual) you’ll be invited to collect aspects of your intimate everyday experience – dreams, thoughts, bodily sensations, objects – and use them as data to inform choreographic material and structures.
Working with simple frames/containers for inviting movement within the landscapes of our conversation, exploring the tensions between things – words, emotion, habits, concepts – as a way to open considerations of dancing, languaging, perceiving and relating. Considering the content that emerges as oracles, imaginative guides, sites that encourage unanticipated relationships to meaning, through listening, reading and shifting orientations.
