Unscary Saturdays | Freestyle Storytelling with Saskia and Aamina Sat 7 Jun 2025, 1 – 3pm

A challenging and generous space to dance.

Going to a dance class can be scary! Unscary Saturdays are inclusive classes open to all ages and abilities, from professional dancers to untrained enthusiastic movers. The aim is to dismantle the unhelpful pressures and sense of intimidation that can often be felt in dance spaces.

This is a chance to try out dance styles that you’ve always wanted to give a go but felt too scared OR that you did long ago but feel out of practice with now. Come with a keenness to explore movement and an openness to try stuff. Children 12 years and under must be accompanied by a participating adult.

This workshop with Saskia and Aamina draws from the foundations of underground street styles – Krump, Whacking, Hip Hop and House – and interweaves Punk philosophy and Somatic practice. We will explore coming up with our own moves in the groove generating game and explore exchanging with each other in a cypher (circle) format. We will also do an exercise drawing on the “3 C’s”:  where we Come from, what we Claim and what we want to Continue – to see how this tells our story. Throughout the workshop, we will look at grounding techniques, breathwork and eyeline states, to see how these can make your movement feel good for your body and mind.

About Saskia and Aamina

Saskia and Aamina have been growing a co-facilitation practice since 2023. Saskia’s street style foundations cross pollinate with their experience healing from chronic illness – and they centre slowness, sustainability and play. Aamina’s focuses on connection to sound and how to illustrate this through actively learning to listen deeply and allow the body to move itself.

Through the way their methods naturally converse and inform one another, the duo began cultivated a workshop series about storytelling through movement. This idea explores selfhood, lineage and developing your own movement approach, employing Sas and Aamina’s shared ideology of slowness, play and the pursuit of internal understanding through movement.
