Annie Hanauer is an independent contemporary dancer, choreographer, and teacher based between London and France, originally from the USA.
Her current choreographic research explores how we can invite connectivity & sharpen group instinct in improvised performance, and she aims to create work which brings hidden stories & processes to light. She is interested in the stage as a place of taking power and re-framing. Annie believes dancing is for everyone, and wants to challenge the idea of a normative dancing body. Annie’s work has been supported by Arts Council England, Siobhan Davies Dance, Candoco Dance Company, CCN2 Grenoble, and The Place.
Annie currently performs around the world with long-time collaborators Rachid Ouramdane/CCN2 Grenoble and Emanuel Gat Dance (France), and regularly facilitates classes and workshops nationally & internationally. She is one-third of AnnieVickySarah (AVS), a collective of 3 female independent dance artists launched in 2017 interested in investigating ‘inclusive’ dance practices. She danced with Candoco Dance Company from 2008-2014, and has worked with Wendy Houstoun, Lea Anderson, Boris Charmatz, and in research & performance settings with a variety of artists & companies.
