Course Leader and Senior Lecturer in Dance at Leeds Metropolitan University, Rachel is a member of an innovative Performing Arts department that includes Experimental Theatre Practices, Live Art and the Northern Film School. Before moving to Yorkshire Rachel spent 20 years as a London based independent dance artist, collaborating and performing with over 30 different artists such as La Ribot, Akram Khan and Wendy Houstoun, to name but a few. She has been rehearsal director for several British dance companies, choreographed her own work and taught extensively and internationally. In 2002 she won the Jerwood Choreography Award with Ben Wright. Alongside her pedagogic practice Rachel maintains her profile as a practicing artist. She toured her solo ‘The Swimmer’ choreographed by Deborah Hay, to several prestigious international festivals. Most recently she has been performing with Matthias Sperling with the duet ‘Do Not Be Afraid’and Oliver Bray with the duet ‘T.Hanks’.
