Rubie is developing a practice that “does slipperiness”. With songwriting, collective singing, choreography and sculpture as tools, they reject binary distinctions and advocate taking both.
Their work is conceived in opposition or collaboration with its context; from Sea Songs in leaky tiled clubs, to choral works sung through protest megaphones in public procession.
Recent performances include Jupiter Woods’ Summer Party 2019, Metaphonica III at Central St. Martins, and The Quietus Social.
Rubie is also a frequent musical collaborator; singing backing vocals on 2019 releases by Trash Kit and Flamingods, singing as a member and contributing composer for F*Choir, and performing live with choral xylo-pop band Jenny Moore’s Mystic Business.
Rubie completed the Siobhan Davies Dance Next Choreography Course in 2018, and graduated from Central St. Martins in Fine Art in 2019. They were awarded a place on CSM’s Associate Studio Programme, where they are currently based.
