POWER

A community performance project in Elephant and Castle for all ages and experience.

POWER was the culmination of 2 weeks of workshops at Siobhan Davies Studios, taking place in late May and early June 2023. Each performer took part in up to 8 workshops and the performance day was the first time we all came together! For many this was their first experience of performing in front of an audience.

POWER was directed by SDS Co-Artistic Director Annie Pui Ling Lok, Juan Ayala, Nathaniel Parchment and Jia-Yu Corti and performed by people with ties to the Elephant and Castle area and members of the SDS team. Together we explored the themes of power in numbers and community through movement influenced by Tai Chi, peking opera, contemporary dance, somatics, improvisation, line-dancing, latin ballroom and jive.

POWER was the second of four annual performance projects – LANGUAGE, POWER, FEAR, EMOTION. Check out what we got up to in 2022’s celebratory project LANGUAGE here.
