Un-Veiling: A talkative remembering 1. | A grainy black and white image shows a figure standing with one arm over their head in a relaxed pose. The room they are in looks like a theatre, with a ladder and large black curtain in the background.

Live Archive: Un-Veiling

My Johansson and Collaborator were due to undertake talkative remembering into performance and the veil in Iran. Part of Artist Archive.

My and Collaborator explore the making of a performance created in Iran. This work explored the veil and its effect on people, in a country were dance in public is illegal, performances have to get government approval and by presenting the work the performers were committing a mutiny. Their exploration would reflect on this experience to look towards the ‘Woman Life Freedom‘ uprising in Iran and the performative act of unveiling oneself in public.

My Johansson is a choreographer, dancer and actress. My was due to collaborate with an Iranian playwright, dramaturg, and researcher, who has since asked to be anonymous. Due to political and legal risks to the artist, this project for Artist Archive has been indefinitely postponed until a public presentation can be safely arranged.
