Town Square Rest

A space to drift, think, SLEEP.

Town Square rest offers a monthly intervention into cultures of over-production and attention demand. This is a slow, quiet and autonomous space that can be used for self-guided meditation, gentle movement, journaling, daydreaming or napping.

There will be yoga mats, blankets and pillows. Fernanda Munoz Newsome’s set from Inchoate Buzz – soft, tactile inviting objects of varying weights created by India Harvey – will also be available.

This new addition to Town Square is indebted to rest practices and politics – such as those led by Tricia Hersey or discussed by Jenny Odell. This discourse sees naps, inactivity and collective dreaming as central to the liberation of those who have experienced marginalisation, displacement, exclusion and violence.

Our Town Square offer is made up Studio, Co-working, Chat, Listening Circles and Rest spaces. Find out about each strand here.

Town Square Rest happens on Fridays, monthly, starting from 12pm. Places are free, you can book in advance or turn up on the day.

Fundraising for local charities

As part of Town Square, we encourage bookers to donate to a selected local charity. These charities are chosen to reflect our values and ways of working. Town Square users are invited to donate to the charity directly, if they feel they are able. This season we will be raising money for Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers (SDCAS) who provide a range of services to promote general wellbeing, health and education among asylum seekers, refugees and migrants in South London. You can find out more about them and the work they do here: sdcas.org.uk.
