In the second season showing work from the Bermondsey Artist’s Group we presented the work of Victoria Forrest. The exhibition comprised of three new sketches, inspired by the architecture of Siobhan Davies Studios and the people who use the building.
Forrest’s work captures light within architectural spaces by recording it directly onto photographic film. Colours are enriched, contrasts heightened, and perspectives altered to create removed and elated imagery. Fluorescent tubes of varied strength and colour are moved within a blackened space to create forms and shapes. The resultant photographs become the documentation of a moving light show. Traditional disciplines of drawing (the line), painting (the mixing of colours) and photography (drawing with light) are combined to create bold and graphic works utilizing the depth and colour of C-type processing in an innovative and modern way.
Forrest’s interest in precision and attention to process gives her work a unique depth. In our saturated photographic culture her work stands out as a creative and innovative practice retaining the magic of wet processing.
