Preverberation is a word used by Nathaniel Rackowe to describe the moment prior to the action that leads to the making of a piece of work. It is the thought that prompts the idea. It also draws on the word reverberation, describing an echo, or the resonance of the past within the present. Using light, kinetic elements and common industrial materials, Rackowe makes works that animate architectural spaces and transform viewers into participants. It is from these points of departure that Rackowe presents both old and new works, works that reveal above all, a continued engagement with the activity of production.
Alongside the new sculptural work, Block Tower (2008), Nathaniel Rackowe showed previously unseen photographs that explore through registrations of scale, the structural possibilities of his sculptures. He also shows a video work that draws together previously separate footage from a number of installations that span his career.
