We are working with our neighbouring primary school, Charlotte Sharman Primary School, to achieve the much coveted Artsmark Award.
3 teachers and their classes worked with our dance artist to develop their skills and confidence using movement as an effective teaching tool to engage and enrich their pupils’ learning. Each class used a different painting as the starting point for their work, using the approach of the National Gallery’s Take One Picture programme and developing it further through the use of movement.
These film clips shows the work produced by each of the classes. Year 5 were responding to the painting The Bathers at Asnieres. Their film clip has been submitted to the National Gallery’s Take One Picture exhibition.
Through our mentoring programme the schools’ Arts Coordinator was supported to develop a whole-school approach to integrating dance and movement within teaching and learning opportunities for their pupils.

‘The children were really given the opportunity to develop their own ideas, and I’ve seen changes in their work as a result. This experience has also shown me how to produce movement from a stimulus and develop this into their literacy work.’ Teacher, Charlotte Sharman Primary School
