ROTOR is an ensemble of installations and live works by Siobhan Davies and eight commissioned artists.
A new piece of choreography was created by Siobhan Davies and filmed from above, its patterns creating a score. Distinct elements from The Score triggered eight commissioned artists to create their own new pieces of work that respond to the movement, images, energies and character created from the dancers’ actions within it. Turner Prize 2010 shortlisted artist Angela de la Cruz, composer Matteo Fargion and ceramicist Clare Twomey are among the artists featured in a show that combines dance, sound, art, poetry and more.
ROTOR at Dovecot Studios continues Siobhan Davies’s innovation of making work to be seen at close range, in gallery and studios settings, and presenting work based on a dialogue between art forms.
Senior Dovecot weaver, Naomi Roberston, has been inspired to respond to ROTOR with a 3D finely woven maquette which will be on display during the exhibition and the Dovecot weavers will be working while the exhibition is open.
ROTOR has previously been shown at Siobhan Davies Studios in London (November 2010), South London Gallery (December 2010) and the Whitworth Gallery in Manchester (January 2011).
