Workshop with Annie, Dec 2024 | Photo: Rocio Chacon

Workshop with Annie/Cancelled Sat 3 May – Sun 4 May 2025, 12.30 - 5.30pm

Due to unforeseen circumstances unfortunately this workshop has been cancelled.

A weekend workshop with SDS’s Co-Artistic Director Annie Pui Ling Lok.

“I felt so much permission, invitation, spaciousness …
A very welcoming and inclusive space.”

Following on from the questions generated at our last Workshop with Annie, we continue the navigation of permission and expectation in our dancing, whether alone or with others. Asking:

  • What is it like to dance with an injured/ageing/____ body (mine or my partner’s)?
  • What does consent feel/look like in solo and contact dancing for me?
  • How do I give and receive clear and honest feedback?

We will exercise shared responsibility in the studio by looking at evolving clarity, honesty and respect for ourselves and others whilst dancing. There will be space to play with what pushing and challenging ourselves positively is and feels like for each of us.

Each day gives time to prepare bodies and minds through:

  • Solo time
  • Rest
  • Duet and group scores

The weekend will combine elements of Annie’s work – performance, choreography, contact improvisation, and biodynamic craniosacral therapy. Guided work in tuning proprioception, observing physical sensations and use of anatomical and physiological information, will lead us into noticing choice, agency, and desire.

Suitable for professional dancers and those with experience in dance improvisation and working in respectful contact/partnership with others. You do not need to have attended the previous session to take part.
