This summer continues celebrations for SDS’s 20th anniversary year which looks back over the last 20 years and also forward to the next 20 years and beyond.
Big events to look out for include…
- The completely un-exclusive Summer Party with Bollyqueer kicking off at the beginning of June, come alone or with friends and family (chosen or not!)
- Our first ever Dance Market in mid-June where you can join in/drop in for a day of free inclusive taster sessions and dance demos outdoors in Walworth Square. Dance Market will showcase some of the inspiring artists and dance styles that happen at SDS including Krump, Caribbean Dance, Contact Improvisation, Lindy Hop and more.
- Chapter 1 of Living Image where 5 dance artists will remake Siobhan Davies’s solo from her work Sphinx (1977) over 5 days, concludes in an evening of old/new dance performances at the beginning of July. Find out more about the artists below… Super exciting!
Rewinding a bit, SDS will be hosting a talk by Ranjini Nair at the end of May – An Overlooked Story: Indian Temple Dancers in Victorian London exploring the first Indian temple dancers who arrived in London in 1838 and whose stories have largely faded from public memory.
The start of June welcomes back Billy Gigurtis with Crit Space 5 and launches Part 2 of Creative Contemporary which brings a fresh line-up of teachers each week – open for booking now!
SDS will be taking part in Refugee Week (15-21 June) see below for more info on ways to donate.
Finally in July we have the third Underscore for BPOC/Global Majority Dancers led by Nathaniel Parchment at Pembroke House and then Archita Kumar will be teaching Kathak in a very unscary way at our Unscary Saturday class.
