April 2021 | Spring Changes

Spring is a time of transition, this year especially so for Siobhan Davies Studios as our Founder Choreographer and Artistic Director Siobhan Davies steps down and incoming Co-Artistic Directors Annie Pui Ling Lok and Kat Bridge take up the role.

We want this to be a time of warm welcome and celebration, an opportunity to mark Siobhan’s 39 years of directorship of Siobhan Davies Dance and 15 years of residency at our South London studios. Thank you to all who joined us for Continuing Conversations over the last 6-weeks, which in their quiet way provided a chance to raise a glass to Sue. For now though, the proper celebrations will have to wait until the summer. We look forward to it.

A message from Siobhan

“I think of this moment as a hinge point between my stepping aside and Annie and Kat taking over. Our continuous interest in dance, what it is now and what it might be in the future, links us and I am moved to be part of this shift of emphasis and perspective with them.

Continuing Conversations and the next edition of Material, which will be published in the summer, are the last two things I have helped make before my Artistic Directorship drew to a close. For me, both of these projects have been about looking forward. They are also about learning from others, both familiar and new. I am so impressed by the thinking and doing within dance now, even at this complex and precarious time. I hope these gestures infuse Annie and Kat’s entrance with liveliness and pleasure.

I trust Annie and Kat completely. What they will initiate and encourage, in and beyond the studios, will be a joy to witness. I wish them very well now and in the future.”

An invitation from Annie and Kat

In place of an invitation into the building, Annie and Kat would like you to join them for an Open Studio on zoom next Thursday, as part of their first week at Siobhan Davies Studios. Drop-in and say “hi” over a cup of tea or coffee (or whatever you’d like to bring) anytime between 4 – 6pm.
