Before we close from 16 December – 6 January there is still a last dance to be had at our Fundraiser Disco tomorrow. All proceeds support the inspiring Khalil Sakakini Cultural Center in Palestine, whose initiatives foster a vibrant and nurturing artist’s community at a devastating time. Since our last newsletter… we hosted our Artist Archive Day in October – look out for some reflections in the new year. November saw sold out performances for the final NEUROLIVE commission Readings of what was never written from Matthias Sperling. Writing for Dance Art Journal, Florence Nicholls described it as “between reality and utopia … mystically logical and frantically controlled” You can also read about the 5-year NEUROLIVE project in this Guardian article by Lindsey Winship.
Next, Moyra Silva and Carolina Rieckhof held an ‘empowering’ and ‘intimate’ workshop and sharing of their project Uproar – read Paula Catalina Riofrio’s contemplative review also in Dance Art Journal here: “It felt as if all the hearts present in the room synchronised.” Finally, our annual December Workshop with Annie brought dancers together to navigate permission and difference – look out for the follow up in early May…
January 2025 kicks off with Adesola Akinleye’s Reclaiming Ballet session for Unscary Saturday and Yuyu Rau joins us for a Lion Dancing craft and movement workshop with a twist for Lunar New Year. Throughout 2025, Town Square continues to offer low-cost/free spaces with the addition of Town Square Rest: a space to drift, think, sleep.
