FEAR has begun! We’re half-way into the process of creating a performance with people from our communities – the third in the LANGUAGE POWER FEAR EMOTION series – and we’re having a wild and beautiful time. The cast of over 50 performers will come together in the Roof Studio next week, book tickets here.
Looking back… Earlier in the summer, we hosted Shanelle ‘Tali’ Fergus and Nabil Al-Kinani in conversation for Where have all these people gone?. NAC members Yasmine Dankwah and Saffron Mustafa joined us and produced two deeply thoughtful reflections on gentrification, power, honesty and the potency of telling your own story. Have a read here and here. We were also still revelling in the memories of Angela Andrew’s incredible Live Archive: mearchivingme. Aisha Kacie joined us a wrote in their reflection: “events such as this show me that people like Angela have been contributing to dance generously, relentlessly and unapologetically since the origin of dance.” Read the in full text here.
Our Artist Archive programme continues in July with a closing event for Angel Zinovieff‘s Material Archive: UKG Cosmology. Join us to delve into the ideas, movements and sounds of the UK garage rave scene, and experience Angel and collaborator Siin Lee activate the works installed in the studios.
Finally – we are excited to open applications for NEXT Choreography 2024/25, our course for young artists between 18-25. Following this year’s spectacular festival (read dance art journal’s coverage here), we can’t wait to see who applies to take part.
