Community Board

Do you have ideas for the arts in Southwark?
Are you interested in what happens at Siobhan Davies Studios?
Do you want to have a say?

Siobhan Davies Studios (SDS) is looking for five people who live, work or study in Southwark to make up a new Community Board, funded by Southwark Council’s Culture Together grants.

Expressions of interest for our community board have now closed. We intend to inform applicants in the week of 29 September.

Why a Community Board?

At SDS we work alongside dance artists and people from underrepresented communities in our local area, believing that dance is an artform that speaks to many. The Community Board will ensure that our programme is shaped by local people, and those who attend our building and activities. If you’re hearing about our work for the first time – have a read about what we do here.

The Community Board will feedback on the relevance and effectiveness of our activities, so that they remain welcoming and reflective of the diverse interests and needs of our local and artistic communities.

What it involves

There will be 3-4 meetings per year. Each meeting will last 90 minutes or less in person at the Studios, in Elephant & Castle or accessible online. There will be snacks! An SDS team member will be there to introduce the meeting and the key discussion topics. Each meeting will focus on up to 2 programme activities for feedback. One of our team can be available to support access needs before, during and after each session.

All members will receive:

  • £50 per meeting, paid by bank transfer
  • Travel reimbursement and/or access support if needed
  • 10 tickets per year to our activities for either you or guests

The first introductory meeting will happen in the week of 20 October, which will include members giving their views on proposals for outdoor furniture at SDS. Meeting 2 will take place in December 2025 and meeting 3 will take place in February 2026.

Who can apply?

You don’t need to be a dancer, or a dance fan, or know loads about the arts – we’re looking for enthusiastic people who care about arts and culture, and who it reaches, in our local community in Southwark.

Since leadership changes in 2021, our programme has been shaped by, and centres, people who have experienced marginalisation, displacement, exclusion, and violence. This opportunity will continue to do this.

We are particularly interested in applications from those whose backgrounds are underrepresented in our sector, including people with heritage from the global majority/global south, who identify as disabled and/or neurodiverse, and/or who are from low-income backgrounds.

Tell us that you’re interested
